Giant Squid Reading and recitation.

This is a passage from the One World textbook that I am currently teaching one of my students. This is a work in progress and I am currently seeking advice from others.

My plan has been to use the first day to read aloud and discuss this with my student freely and potentially the next time as well. After that I am unsure what to do. My student is quite advanced for a 3rd grade Junior High School student, and the main teacher has essentially left me in charge of 10 classes to teach the student. Obviously, I want him to memorize the passage as well as understand it. But I also don’t want him to feel bored by reading and repeating every time. I am new to this teaching concept and I welcome any and all advice to this subject.

I have made a series of presentations (all rolled up into one) and felt like it may be apropos to allow others to view it to give advice. There are 3 sections to the presentation. The first section is just words with pink highlights being difficult or important words (in my opinion). The 2nd section has black text fill in the white as a way to have the student read along with at a certain pace. The final section has blanks/blocks put in place to test his memory of certain words. 

Each section in broken up with videos just for fun.
